Biplane Tours Give a Bird's Eye View
-
St. Augustine tour services have taken on many forms since Henry Flagler brought visitors down via coach and then train over a hundred years ago. Tourists can now choose between walking tours, personal tours in an electric car, horse-and-buggy rides and kayak tours.
While any of these are fun St. Augustine vacation experiences, one tour quite literally soars above the others - St. Augustine Biplane Rides is a one-of-a-kind experience you'll never forget!
Every part of a biplane tour is exceptional, from the custom-built aircraft trimmed with gleaming wood and supple leather to the views of the Florida sun glistening on the surface of the intracoastal 1,000 feet below. With this trip, your thirst for St. Augustine adventure will be quenched... or whetted for another flight again as soon as possible!
While you fly over the nation's oldest city, your guide will point out landmarks below. He's quick to quip that he isn't there to tell you about Flagler's wives- you'll have to ride the trolley for that one- but I found myself adding to my "St. Augustine things to do" list as he pointed out the lighthouse, fort, Flagler College and El Galeon ship.
While Dave, the pilot, welcomes the business tourism brings aboard his plane, it's clear that he loves flying above all else. Every part of my experience was smooth and comfortable- Dave is a true master of his craft.
As we flew back toward the airport, I looked down on the same ocean, same grassy estuary, same wild Florida that St. Augustine's founders first saw 450 years ago and I shared- for a brief moment- the thrill of discovery. I've discovered I love flight! And re-discovered my love for my hometown. Viva St. Augustine!
