Coronavirus (COVID-19) Updates

Now that businesses are beginning to open, we will continue to update this article as we receive notifications from local government officials and individual businesses.

  • The Summary as of Wednesday, July 1.

MASKS ARE REQUIRED INDOORS. The City of St. Augustine has issued a resolution requiring masks to be worn indoors, effective as of 12:01 a.m. on Saturday, June 27. “Every person working, living, visiting, or doing business in the City of St. Augustine shall wear a face-covering in any indoor location, other than their home or residence, when not maintaining social distancing from other person(s), excluding family members or companions.”

With this resolution, the city hopes to slow the transmission of the coronavirus, without closing businesses. There are some exceptions, including people under 2 years old, people for whom a face covering would cause impairment due to an existing health condition, and in places where it is possible to maintain social distancing. Face coverings must cover the nose and mouth and must remain in place without being held up.

Also on June 26, the State of Florida has banned all bars from selling alcohol for on-premises consumption, effectively immediately.

VACATION RENTALS in St. Johns County may accept reservations from residents of Florida and all of the 49 other states in the U.S. However, at this time, residents from New York, Connecticut, New Jersey, and Louisana must make reservations for a length of time that exceeds 14 days and they must socially isolate for the first 14 days.  By the order, that means that they must remain on that property except to obtain food and medicine. After the isolation period of 14 days, those visitors may then enjoy all St. Augustine has to offer. To see the St. Johns County Guideline for Property Owners and Managers go here.

    OPEN

    (Updated June 30 at  2:45 p.m.)

    Restaurants, Pubs & Bars

Restaurants may operate at 50% of capacity, must conform to CDC guidelines, and must space each party no closer than 6 feet. Outdoor seating is allowed as long as the parties are 6 feet apart. No parties with more than 10 persons may be seated together.  Restaurant kitchens may still provide takeout or delivery if they wish.

Bars may be open at 50% of capacity as long as the number of people standing is reduced. As of June 17, most bars and restaurants have re-opened with various indoor and outdoor seating arrangements.

We work to keep this list up-to-date, but cannot accommodate short closures, or changing hours. Please be aware that conditions may require any restaurant or bar to close early, open late, change their hours, or close for a few days and reopen. We strongly suggest that you call any bar or eatery before creating plans, driving some distance, and looking for parking.

We would like to come for vacation. Are you mandated to wear masks or can this be at your discretion?

When will the decision be made about the fireworks at the fort?

To Marie, and others who are wondering about the Fireworks. The city will make and announce its decision on Monday, June 8.  We will post it in the top section of this article. Thank you for letting us know that we had neglected to mention the date of their deadline. That has been corrected.

Is the 4 of July in fort matanza cancelled?

Will the art walk resume on 6/5?

      Good day, Lisa.

At this point, large gatherings are discouraged and all retail shops, restaurants, and galleries are allowed to open only at 25% of capacity. We have not heard that anyone is planning to have the Art Walk under those restrictions.

Can we still fish at the Inner coastal in St Augustine?

To Bobbie and all who fish: You can absolutely still launch a boat and enjoy the Intra Coastal waters. We've seen folks fishing, water-skiing, kayaking, and simply taking a boat ride. As of late in March, boats were required to have no more than 10 onboard (no matter the size of the vessel) and could not anchor or beach with 50 feet of another boat. Being on the water is a great way to socially isolate as long as you socially isolate when you are on the water.

I’m supposed to get married this weekend at River to Sea and then dinner reception at Catch 27. Our wedding hugest count is 12+ bride and groom. Any suggestions on moving forward with this wedding? Will there be a city wide restaurant closure? (Is Catch 27 open?) helllllp!
