When three local St. Augustine musicians decided they simply enjoyed playing together and with others, they formed The Stragglers, a three piece band with Mike Elias on mandolin, guitar, and vocals; Jim Quine on guitar and vocals; and Bill Austin on bass. The Stragglers primarily play roots or Americana music, as Mike said, "We don't like to label musical genres but sometimes ya gotta go there." They also don't limit their group to just the core three musicians, and named the band to commemorate how their musician friends frequently "straggle in" and play a few songs with them.

A set from the Stragglers is likely to begin with a song one of them wrote, followed by an old bluegrass favorite, which is in turn followed by their version of a top 100 hit from the 60s and 70s. Those who enjoy excellent musicians having fun performing their favorite songs, will enjoy spending an evening listening to the Stragglers — both the original three members and any of their friends who may straggle in to play.
