Bill Mullen

A triple threat from Dundee, Scotland, Bill Mullen is a musician, singer, and storyteller.

Mullen has been in bands since he was in his teens, playing guitar and singing lead and harmony. He moved to the U.S. in 2007 and began performing in Scottish and Irish venues as a solo artist. Now he travels back and forth from his home here to the island of his heart in Scotland, touring and playing at festivals on both sides of the Atlantic.

He often says that he was born into Celtic music, surrounded by Irish and Scottish culture, and he thought everyone lived with that music and stories. Mullen mentions the Clancy Brothers, Christie Moore, Hamish Imlach, and Andy Stewart as some of the musicians who influenced him with their talent and the passion they brought to their performances. In his youth and as a young man, Mullen played mostly folk, pop, and rock music with various bands until he settled down and started a family.

While living and working in the Netherlands, he and Feargal Maconuladh formed a Celtic duo, became popular performers, and recorded two albums. After Mullen and his family moved to Oregon, Feargal visited, and they again sang and performed together. That led to solo gigs and Mullen’s repertoire of Scottish, Irish, English, and American music. He has been a professional musician since 2013, playing at festivals and events on two continents. He has recorded two albums, The Beginning and Mullen It Over. The latter of the two has all original music.

When he’s performing, his wife, Dorothy, often joins in a song and shares her harmonies.
