Poor LIfe Choices
A storyteller blending country, folk, rock, and humor into songs.
Nashville-based songwriter Paul Orehovec is a storyteller at heart. With a knack for turning life’s chaos into song, Orehovec crafts music that is equal parts clever and unflinchingly real. Under his tongue-in-cheek moniker Poor Life Choices, Orehovec blurs genre lines, pulling from country, folk, reggae, and rock to create a sound that is unpredictable. His songs swing from laugh-out-loud wit to gut-punch honesty, and always land with authenticity.
Born in Ohio and raised in Miami, Orehovec began as a live performer, sharing stages with legends like James Brown and The Skatalites, as well as hitting the road with Warped Tour. His creative path later took him to Los Angeles, where he spent more than 15 years shaping stories behind the camera as a television producer on hit series, including The Closer and Major Crimes. That cinematic touch now runs through his songwriting, giving his music a vivid sense of character, structure, and scene.
In 2020, Orehovec leaned fully into music, launching the album Poor Life Choices as a playful nod to his career pivot. Since moving to Nashville, he’s been embraced by the city’s songwriting community, co-writing with rising country artists while building his own catalog of sharp, soulful, and human songs.
Currently at work on the debut Poor Life Choices full-length album, Orehovec continues exploring the absurdities, heartbreaks, and small triumphs that make up the human condition, always with a storyteller’s eye and a songwriter’s heart.
