Shea Birney
A singer and songwriter who has won several awards for his music.
A songwriter known for his intelligent and poignant songs, Shay grew up in Palm Coast, Florida. In the 2010s, he performed frequently in Palm Coast and St. Augustine, often sitting in with other local musicians. His music is a highly creative fusion of folk and punk, combining his individualistic tonal qualities with an honest and genuine lyrical style that matches that of iconic songwriters such as Bob Dylan and Conor Oberst.
Shea was a finalist in the St. Augustine Songwriting Competition of 2015 and was a featured performer at the International Folk Alliance conference in 2016. Shea won Narrow Magazine's Album of the Year in 2016 with his debut LP, The Curtain Is Drawn. He was featured on St. Augustine's acclaimed songwriter collaboration album, Local Honey, in 2014 and has opened for national touring acts like Dave Dondero, Delta Spirit, and Matt Vasquez. Bleeding Tree Entertainment describes him as "a welcome breath, a talent beyond his years."
Like many musicians, Shea has a "day job" and now lives in Washington, D.C., where he still writes songs and performs as time permits.
