Shea Birney

An intellectual and poignant songwriter, Shea Birney is St. Augustine’s diamond mine, opening up an unexplored domain of the mind. He has mastered his original sound from a blend of influences of both folk, punk, and rock.

A modern, brilliant, and skilled songwriter, and a well of unbridled emotional intellect, Shea Birney blends together a highly creative musical fusion of folk and punk, combining his individualistic tonal qualities with an honest and genuine lyrical style that matches that of iconic songwriters such as Bob Dylan and Conor Oberst.

Originally from Palm Coast, Florida, Shea began to shape his sound in his teenage years, influenced by everyone from Elliot Smith and Bright Eyes to Modest Mouse and David Bowie. Shea was also a finalist in the St. Augustine Songwriting Competition of 2015 and was a featured performer at The International Folk Alliance conference in 2016. Shea won Narrow Magazine's Album of the Year in 2016 with his debut LP, The Curtain is Drawn. He was featured on St. Augustine's acclaimed songwriter collaboration album, Local Honey, in 2014 and has opened for national touring acts like Dave Dondero, Delta Spirit, and Matt Vasquez. Bleeding Tree Entertainment describes him as "a welcome breath, a talent beyond his years."
