David Reed
"Where creativity meets tradition."
From his Asleep at the Keel album, and the song "Doctor Easy," David Reed claims to have written only one blues tune, but it's a really good one. This, from a finger-style playing, cigar-box guitar building, performer-songwriter, who includes "knees" in his list of instruments played. Add to this his life as a studio musician, music educator, author, and performer on tours, at festivals, and house concerts, he is also the founder and director of The Mill River Folk School, "Where creativity meets tradition."
With a varied background in writing, performing, and producing, Reed has become a favorite of Funkytune blues, reggae, and original music lovers, thanks to his sunny, bouncy Caribe vibe. Listeners note that Reed is reminiscent of Mississippi John Hurt, David Lindley, Jorma Kaukonen, Joseph Spence, and Taj Mahal. As of 2025, he has released seven albums showcasing his slide guitar skills and his "juke joint, country blues & smokestack rock" style.
