Dead Parrots Society
A powerful vocalist and several talented musicians play laid back covers from several genres.
Dead Parrots Society was formed by musicians who frequent the many open mics in the region.
Guitarist Michael Owen is a sound engineer, guitarist, and singer who celebrates the local music scene in many ways. From his home studio, he has produced an interview series with local musicians called "St. Augustine Live 'n' Local." Check it out on YouTube. As a frequent performer at the open mic events at Ann O'Malley's and several others over a few years, Owen got to know vocalist and guitarist Rebecca Zuhoski-Tatum, and Warren McCrary, who sings vocals and plays mandolin, guitar, and harmonica. They added electric bass player Jared Manning and Rebecca Varner on drums to form an eclectic band that plays an eclectic mix of covers.
Dead Parrots Society plays jazz, pop, country, and rock. Band members have been inspired by a vast list of musicians, from Etta James to Amy Winehouse and Michael Kiwanuka.
They are comfortable together, enjoy having fun making music, and have formed a great blend fronted by Rebecca Z-T's soulful vocals, and enhanced by the surprise of Warren McCrary's mandolin, harmonica, and bird whistle.
