This indie pop band from LA, led by singer, songwriter, and drummer Madeline Babuka Black, has been described as “ultra-catchy, girly, and jangly.” It’s all that and much more. Black, a singer, songwriter, and multiinstrumentalist who also has a career as an animator, has a gift for writing pop tunes that stick.
A review of their recent album, Slippers 08, describes Black’s work while referencing Karen Carpenter and the Beatles. The genre is definitely pop, and the songs of this indie pop band bring pop into the 2020s better than many other bands have done.
Originally from Georgia and now based in LA, Black also shot the video for “Wasted Tonight” on 16mm, providing a visual that captured the 60’s doo wop energy of the lyrics and music. Earlier in their career, Black played with Yucky Duster, Veverly, and Gobbinjr.
