Sparrow Smith
Bringing the best of Appalachia to the stage in live performances.
Though Sparrow Smith was raised in Colorado, her heart is definitely at home in North Carolina. This songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and singer performs solo, with friends, and has toured with several bands. She’s now an integral member of The Renosant Rogues, along with her husband, Keith Josiah Smith.
Smith’s presentation is one of a kind. Her vocals are nearly pure bluegrass with just a hint of twang, her chosen instruments are banjo and accordion, her songs are full of heart, poetry, and a deep understanding of her adopted state, and her fashion style is legendary, totally in sync with her music and just shy of being over-the-top.
So far, Smith and her husband have been featured on at least 14 albums and EPs during the past 12-plus years, with several bands. In the fall of 2025, she released her first solo album, Carolina Mountains. The album exists because Smith wanted to produce a “banjo record," with songs that didn't work for the Renosant Rogues. Instead, Smith wrote 12 new songs for the album, developed as a “love letter to Appalachia.”
