Tariffs
Four proficient musicians in a post/math rock band focused on their instrumental prowess.
Local musicians Mitch Cheney and Alan Mills on guitar, Andy Calvert on bass, and Jeremy Rogers on drums have formed a post/math rock band called Tariffs.
This blend of post-rock and math rock combines two experimental genres. Both emphasize texture, dynamics, and atmosphere over traditional song structures. The songs are often instrumental, or the vocals may be spoken word, or change from one performance to another. Post-rock builds emotional soundscapes through crescendos and layered textures, while math rock adds complex rhythms, odd time signatures, and intricate guitar work.
Members of Tariffs have toured with Sweep The Leg Johnny, Terror Management Band, Rumah Sakit, South Paw, and the Wobbly Toms.
Tariff's version of post/math rock showcases their technical proficiency, while exuding raw emotion. Fellow local musicians have described the band as "instrumentally operatic."
