Café Eleven at St. Augustine Beach hosts talented local and national artists nearly every week. BeauSoleil avec Micheal Doucet will be playing at Café 11 on February 27, 2014 at 8 p.m. BeauSoleil means "beautiful sun" in French.
According to BeauSoleil's website they "take the rich Cajun traditions of Louisiana and artfully blend elements of zydeco, New Orleans jazz, Tex-Mex, country, blues, and more into a satisfying musical recipe." BeauSoleil is one of a few traditional Creole, Louisiana music groups to win a Grammy Award. Their album, L'Amour Ou La Folie (Love Or Folly), recorded in 1996, earned the 1997 Grammy for Best Traditional Fold Album.
BeauSoleil avec Micheal Doucet is an exciting Cajun band that plays energetic and moving music rooted in the folk tunes of the Creole and Cajun people of Louisiana. They play original music using an array of traditional and non-traditional musical instruments like the ukulele, mandolin, violin, guitar, fiddle, and even the accordion!
About the Band's Unique Name: Their name is a tribute to Joseph Broussard dit Beausoleil, the leader of the Acadian resistance to British deportation efforts beginning in 1755. Broussard led the attack against Dartmouth Nova Scotia, in what would become known as the "Dartmouth Massacre". Beausoleil was eventually captured, but following his imprisonment managed to lead 193 exiles to Louisiana before he died in 1765.
