Boat races in St. Augustine's bayfront
A view of Matanzas Bay from downtown St. Augustine looking toward Anastasia Island.
This photograph was taken by W.J. Harris in 1910. Harris was a prolific photographer who resided in St. Augustine during the turn of the century and today his work provides some of the best historic photographs of the nation's oldest city. This photograph shows a boat race taking place in the Matanzas Bay. The bayfront of downtown St. Augustine can be seen in on the left and right side of the photograph and Anastasia Island in the background. In the distance the Saint Augustine Lighthouse can be seen. People line the various piers and docks to watch the excitement.
