Ben Sollee
A cellist, songwriter, and singer who writes music to bring people together.
Ben Sollee's roots are firmly in Kentucky, and his musical education focused on classical music. While he studied cello at the University of Louisville's school of music, he continued to perform with roots and bluegrass musicians. Ben performed in several duos and groups, including a quartet with Abigail Washburn, Béla Fleck, and violinist Casey Driessen.
In succeeding decades, Ben has toured extensively, been lauded for his songwriting skills, and served as an instructor at several string instrument education programs. Much of his original music successfully blends the music of his youth with classical, pop, and jazz elements to create a genre-bending sound all his own. He has said that his overall theme is "togetherness," and that he uses his music to bring people together and strengthen their ties to the environment.
From performing his songs at NPR's Tiny Desk Concert, to co-writing the score for the movie, Land—Ben Sollee has made a name as a songwriter, composer, and storyteller who has inspiring talents and the desire to inspire through his activism.
