Kent Blazy traded his baseball glove for a guitar after he heard Roger McGuinn playing his Rickenbacker guitar on "Mr. Tamborine Man." By the mid-70's, Blazy was band leader, playing guitar and touring with Canadian legend, Ian Tyson, when he was persuaded to focus on his songwriting.

He moved to Nashville in 1980 and two years later, Gary Morris took Blazy's "Headed for Heartache" to number-five on the charts. In 1987, Blazy was introduced to a new demo singer, Garth Brooks, and was told that, "Garth writes a little bit, too." The first song they penned together, "If Tomorrow Never Comes" became the first number-one song for both of them. They followed this song with "Ain't Going Down Until the Sun Comes Up," "Beer Run," It's Midnight Cinderella," and many more.

Blazy's songwriting has continued with writing partnerships with various artists. Many of his crafted works continue to be recorded by artists such as Diamond Rio, Kenny Chesney, Terri Clark, Clay Walker, Patty Loveless, Julie Roberts, Andy Griggs and Blaine Larsen.  Blazy's latest number-one hit is "Gettin' You Home" (The Black Dress Song), recorded by Chris Young.
