Rodney Clawson is a celebrated American songwriter whose roots run deep in the Texas plains of Gruver, where he first cultivated a passion for farming and storytelling. A proud alumnus of West Texas A&M University, he was honored with the Distinguished Alumni Award in 2014 for his contributions to music and culture.

Transitioning from a life of agriculture to the vibrant Nashville songwriting scene, Clawson’s journey was fueled by encouragement from close friends and a relentless pursuit of his craft. Since signing his publishing deal in 2000, his pen has produced an impressive catalog of hits, 24 Billboard number one songs and eight more in the top 10, recorded by country legends like George Strait, Jason Aldean, Kenny Chesney, Morgan Wallen, Tim McGraw, Florida Georgia Line, and many others. His storytelling, infused with authentic Texas charm, has earned him multiple Grammy nominations and numerous accolades, including six Country Music Association (CMA) Triple Play Awards, recognizing his ability to craft three chart-topping songs within a single year.

Clawson’s career highlights include writing George Strait’s record-breaking 56th number one single, “I Saw God Today,” which also won the CMA Single of the Year and earned a Grammy nomination. His work has consistently propelled artists’ careers forward, with hits like Blake Shelton’s “Drink On It,” Luke Bryan’s “Drunk On You,” and Kenny Chesney & Tim McGraw’s duet “Feel Like A Rockstar,” which took home the CMA Vocal Event of the Year.

Clawson's industry recognition extends beyond chart success; he’s been named Nashville Songwriters Association International Songwriter of the Year (2015), Broadcast Music Inc. (BMI) Songwriter of the Year (2013, 2015), and is now an inductee into the Texas Songwriter Hall of Fame. Clawson’s influence is felt not only through his prolific songwriting but also through his role as a producer, contributing to projects for Jake Owen and James Wesley.

Despite his busy career, Clawson remains grounded, enjoying time with his family in Nashville, and pursuits like hunting and fishing across the country. Whether crafting a song that launches careers, or celebrating a personal catch on the water, Clawson’s storytelling legacy continues to shape the country music landscape.
