The Crisp-Ellert Art Museum (CEAM) hosts a screening of the documentary, River of Grass (2025), on Tuesday, October 13, 2026, from 6:00 to 8:30 p.m. at the Gamache-Koger Theater. A Q&A session follows the film. CEAM is open Monday through Friday, from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., and on Saturdays from 12:00 to 4:00 p.m.

The Film

River of Grass, directed by New York-based artist Sasha Wortzel, tells the modern tale of Marjory Stoneman Douglas's 1947 book, The Everglades: River of Grass. Her work has made a huge impact on changing the way humans interact with swamp ecosystems.

Wortzel takes a journey through the Everglades in the company of conservation activist Betty Osceola and a Miccosukee educator, and features Douglas's original writing/narration. The film explores how this region is home to many and questions what the future will be like if the land is not protected.

The documentary has won various awards, including winning the Florida Filmmaker Award (2025) at the Tallahassee Film Festival.

A Q&A session with Wortzel and Anne Schindler—host of WJCT’s News "First Coast Connect"—follows the film.
