Florida Chamber Music Project is an event that works to foster and encourage the presentation of classical chamber music. This series will present classical concerts performed by members of Florida's Chamber Orchestra. The Florida Chamber Music Project will perform two concerts at Ponte Vedra Concert Hall.

May 4, 2014 concert will feature Mozart - Quartet in G Major, K. 387 and Prokofiev - Quartet No. 2. This spectacular performance will entertain as well as enrich visitors.

Mozart's G Major Quartet, K. 387 was one of six quartets dedicated to Franz Joseph Haydn, generally acclaimed as the father of the string quartet form. Mozart worked for over two years composing all six of the quartets he dedicated to Haydn. These six quartets are considered a landmark in classical music and even surpassing the musical ingenuity and technique of Haydn's own quartets. The quartet in G Major, K. 387 is considered the most impressive one of the six.

Prokofiev's Quartet No. 2 is based on folk themes and rhythms. It was composed by Sergei Prokofiev in the 1940's when he was forced to evacuate the Soviet Union after the Nazi's broke their non-aggression pact. He and other artists of his time from the Soviet Union fled to and settled in the Kabardino-Balkar Autonomous SSR in the North Caucasus (the northern part of the Caucasus region between the Black and Caspian Seas within European Russia.) Here, Prokofiev was commissioned by a government official to write a string quartet using Kabardino-Balkar folk themes.

These two performances vary in style and theme but are both highly regarded and represent a vibrant variety of string quartet music. Visitors can come to the Ponte Vedra Concert Hall on Sunday, May 4, 2014 to hear this amazing performance.
