Ottmar Liebert & Luna Negra
Wednesday, January 15, 2020, 8 p.m. at Ponte Vedra Concert Hall
The Ponte Vedra Concert Hall presents nouveau flamenco guitarist Ottmar Liebert and his band Luna Negra in concert on Wednesday, January 15, 2020.
Liebert is a German-born guitarist who always had a passion for music, and more specifically flamenco music. After performing rock music at various clubs in Germany, he moved to Boston, Massachusetts to create new music with the hopes of including a band. In 1989, Liebert moved to Los Angeles and founded the beginnings of his band-known today as Luna Negra. He then recorded his first self-produced album entitled Marita: Shadows and Storms. The album was well-liked by many and continued to get airplay on local radio stations, leading to an interest and eventual signing from record label Higher Octave. Under Higher Octave Records, Liebert's album was re-released with the new title Nouveau Flamenco, which sold double platinum in the United States.
After releasing the album Borrasca, Liebert left Higher Octave and signed with an extremely successful label, Epic Records. Since then, Liebert and his band have produced Christmas albums, original songs, and interesting covers/remixes. Combining flamenco textures with sensual rock, jazz, and pop, the group has been nominated for five Grammy's and received 38 Gold and Platinum certifications.
