St. Augustine Film Society: The Handmaiden

The St. Augustine Film Society presents a showing of the psychological thriller The Handmaiden (2016) on Sunday, September 27, 2026, at 4:00 p.m. at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship.

Written and directed by Park Chan-wook, the film explores themes of misogyny, the male gaze, and class oppression. Set in 1930s Korea, a young pickpocket, Sook-Hee, acts as a handmaiden for a rich heiress, Lady Hideko. Sook-Hee is recruited by Count Fujiwara, who plans to marry her and steal all her riches. Troubles spark as mixed feelings and closer relationships intensify.

Admission: $10.00 for the public. St. Augustine Film Society members are free.
