Deuterman Productions and the Colonial Oak Music Park present the instrumental powerhouse band Toubab Krewe on Wednesday, December 3, 2025, from 6:00 to 10:00 p.m. at Colonial Oak Music Park.
Formed in 2005, Toubab Krewe is a five-piece instrumental band from Asheville, North Carolina. Their original music, jamming style, and Toubab Krewe's unusual instrumentation create a sound that cannot be categorized. You'll hear African rhythms, sounds of folk music from around the world, rock, and the blend of jams and improvisation in their performances. The members of Toubab Krewe are Justin Perkins, Terrence Houston, Drew Heller, Justin Kimmell, and Luke Quaranta.
Terrence Houston plays the drumset, Drew Heller plays both guitar and organ, and Justin Kimmell plays bass and keys. Justin Perkins performs on guitar and percussion and often on one of two West African stringed instruments—the kora and the kamelnogoni. Luke Quaranta plays several percussion instruments: the djembe, congas, dundun, sangban, and kinkini.
Toubab Krewe has performed at several U.S. music festivals, including Bonaroo and High Sierra. They've also performed abroad, including at The Festival in the Desert in Mali. The group has traveled to, and lived and studied in, several countries, absorbing the local music and honoring that music with innovations in new compositions.
