Cafe Eleven welcomes Walter Parks & The Unlawful Assembly on Thursday, October 15, 2026, at 8:00 p.m. Doors open at 7:00 p.m.
Walter Parks is known for tracks such as “Sensitive Kid,” “Requiem,” “Conestoga,” “Troubadour,” “So Bad So Good,” and “Teetotaler’s Reel,” crafting music that draws on folk and Gospel roots. Originally from Jacksonville, Florida, and now based in St. Louis, Parks spent a decade touring worldwide with Richie Havens.
A scholar of historic music, especially Georgia’s Okefenokee Swamp folk and gospel, he loves sharing the stories behind the songs to forge a contemporary connection to music of the past. His performances can feature spirituals, hollers, reels, Delta blues, work songs, and original material.
As a singer, songwriter, guitarist, and storyteller, Parks co-founded The Nudes and currently tours solo, with his trio Swamp Cabbage, and with The Unlawful Assembly. The Unlawful Assembly, featuring Parks along with Ada Dyer, Steven Williams, Paul Frazier, Etienne Lyle, and Andrae Murchison, gained recognition for songs like their cover of “Wade in the Water,” “Shoulder It,” “One Blind Barnabas,” and “Steal Away.”
Walter Parks and The Unlawful Assembly’s discography includes The Unlawful Assembly.
