Two musicians, who play as The Bones, mugging for the camera and flashing a peace sign

Bones

These two experienced musicians have fun making music and playing covers.

Bones, billed as “the duo that sounds like two guys,” play covers and oldies from several decades with skills not always found in small bars and pubs. Combined, bassist, Jeff Ganz, and guitarist, Rick Levy, have more national and international stage and studio experience than most other groups or duos in the area.

Jeff Ganz — 8-string bassist, vocalist, and occasional drummer for other bands — began performing guitar at age 13, switched to the bass at 20, and found a continuous line of mentors and teachers on his quest to be “the first-call guy in every possible genre.” He was a successful session musician and toured with Johnny Winter, Edgar Winter, John Lee Hooker, and Chuck Berry (to name a small number of musical icons listed on Jeff’s website). Jeff has credits playing on movie soundtracks, in Broadway musicals, and on Grammy-nominated recordings.

Rick Levy also has a long career in music, though it took a different path and he ended up in St. Augustine years before Jeff. Rick has shared the stage with Bo Diddley, Jerry Lee Lewis, and James Brown. He founded and fronted several bands in the sixties and seventies, and said his “50-year career” in the industry earned him a decent living, and longevity in the business. In St. Augustine, Rick played with The Falling Bones, a favorite area band, for several years.

Together, the Bones “specialize” in a laundry list of genres from the 50s through the 70s: one-hit-wonders, country, garage-rock, blues, British Invasion, soul, and on and on. They bill themselves as being highly interactive with the audience and promise to play every request. There is no set list, they simply know a ton of music, which they pledge to play at a “pleasant volume level.”
