CEAM—Dr. Brandon Ballengée

The Crisp-Ellert Art Museum hosts an exhibit, conversation, and a workshop with Artist-in-Residence Dr. Brandon Ballengée & Dr. Benjamin Atkinson. The exhibit runs from Monday, September 7 through Saturday, September 19, 2026. A sit-down conversation with Dr. Ballengée and Dr. Atkinson is on Thursday, September 10, 2026, at 6:00 p.m., and the workshop is on Wednesday, September 16, 2026, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. The museum is open Monday through Friday, from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., and on Saturdays from 12:00 to 4:00 p.m.

This Exhibit

Dr. Ballengée has done exceptional work in the conservation, ecology, and evolutionary biology fields. By combining his love of art and science, his exhibit explores the negative impacts of environmental disturbances, such as oil spills, on amphibians and fish.

Through his public talk with Dr. Atkinson—Associate Professor of Natural Sciences at Flagler College—he discusses the importance of conservation research for turtles and tortoises at this particular time. Also, his art-science workshop focuses on fish adaptability and how coastal communities can benefit from this.

Dr. Ballengée has been featured in various exhibits and has received awards/fellowships, including the Smithsonian Artist Research Fellowship, a Guggenheim Fellowship, and the National Academies Keck Futures Initiative. He's currently an Adjunct Faculty member in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology at Tulane University and also co-founded Atelier de la Nature, a STEAM education center.

The CEAM Artist Residency works with Flagler College’s Department of Visual Arts and is designed to foster new, innovative perspectives regarding our local community (themes of history or environment) and connect it to our general society.

About the Crisp-Ellert Museum

The Crisp-Ellert Art Museum, opened in 2007, exhibits works created by local and international artists, including Flagler College's faculty and students. Showcasing a variety of public programs and cultural exhibitions, the museum also serves as a memorial to its benefactors, Drs. Joann Crisp-Ellert and Richard Ellert. The museum's location, once the home of the Ellerts, was donated to Flagler College.
