The Lincolnville Museum and Cultural Center hosts their annual Juneteenth Luncheon on Saturday, June 15, 2024, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., at the Renaissance St. Augustine Historic Downtown Hotel.

In honor of the 60th anniversary of the passage of the Civil Rights Movement, the luncheon will include live music performed by jazz saxophonist Marcus Click, a conversation with activists who participated in civil rights efforts in St. Augustine, and a prelude to Excelsior High School's 100th-anniversary celebration in 2025.

Marcus Click, now from Jacksonville, is a Navy veteran who expanded his appreciation for jazz music while in the Navy. He was inspired by Grover Washington, Jr., David Sanborn, and Kirk Whalum, and pursued a music career. Marcus released his album, Brand New Day, in 2023.

A panel of civil rights activists from 1964 will discuss their experiences—the panelists are:

  • James Jackson, a civil rights activist who the Ku Klux Klan abducted
  • Charlie Cobb, a former activist with the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee who became a journalist and a professor
  • Maude Burroughs Jackson, a Clay County resident who protested in St. Augustine

The Lincolnville Museum and Cultural Center is housed in the building that had been Excelsior High School. Construction of Excelsior began in 1924 and classes began one year later. The museum will celebrate the building in 2025 and the luncheon will offer a preview of the 100th-anniversary celebration of St. Johns County's first Black public high school.

Admission: $75.00 plus tax and fees, per person. Tickets can be purchased at the museum's front desk and online through Eventbrite.

When: Saturday, June 15, 2024, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
