This Production

Written by Yasmina Reza, a French playwright, actress, and novelist who is best known for her plays Art and God of Carnage, the God of Carnage focuses on two couples whose sons had a playground fight. The meeting of adults to resolve the issue deteriorates into humorous and biting squabbles between the two couples and between husband and wife.

Christopher Hampton translated the play into English, and the play premiered in London in March 2008 to wide acclaim. A slightly adjusted "Americanized" version opened on Broadway in 2009, with Jeff Daniels, Hope Davis, James Gandolfini, and Marcia Gay Harden in the lead roles. All four were nominated for Tony Awards, with Harden winning for Best Leading Actress in a Play. This play has been produced in several countries, including Germany, Spain, Croatia, Ireland, Romania, and Serbia. A film adaptation, produced in 2011, featured Jodie Foster, John C. Reilly, Christoph Waltz, and Kate Winslet.

God of Carnage at Limelight Theatre is directed by Andrea McCook and assistant director Angelica Parisen. McCook brings a wealth of experience and a strong community connection to the Limelight stage. A graduate of Flagler College and longtime theatre educator and mentor in Northeast Florida, McCook’s deep artistic roots and commitment to ensemble storytelling make her a dynamic creative force for this production.
