Limelight Theatre presents To Kill a Mockingbird from Thursday, October 22, through Sunday, November 8, 2026. On Sundays, the show starts at 2:00 p.m.; all the other shows start at 7:30 p.m.

This Production

Christopher Sergel adapted the book for the stage in 1990, and hundreds of community and school theatres have performed the play in the nearly 40 years since.

Based on the Pulitzer Prize-winning novel published in 1960, the play is set in the South in 1935. Novelist Harper Lee based the story on something that happened near her hometown of Monroeville, Alabama, in 1936. Like the book, the play deals with serious issues, including rape and racial inequality. The main character, Atticus Finch, is a small-town lawyer who defends an innocent black man, Tom Robinson, against a charge of assaulting a white woman. Finch's daughter Scout watches her father and the townspeople before and during the trial, learning lessons about society, her neighbors, and her family.
