The Guana Tolomato Matanzas National Estuarine Research Reserve (GTM Research Reserve), in partnership with Marineland Dolphin Adventure, will host a free lecture, "ID Birds Digitally and By the Book," on Tuesday, January 19, 2016, from 10 to 11 a.m. at Marineland.

GTM Research Reserve Coastal Training Specialist Lia Sansom will lead the discussion with an overview of local bird species, followed by techniques, tips, and resources to help identify birds. The lecture is suitable for beginners and experienced birders.

The lecture is part of the GTM's Third-Tuesday-of-the-Month series designed to inform the public about the natural world. The program is free, and space is limited, so reservations are suggested. Call (904) 823-4500 or visit here to reserve a space.

Bird watching is an increasingly popular recreational hobby of observing wild birds in their habitats and identifying them according to their behavior and physical characteristics. Birding is a wonderful way for everyone to get in touch with the natural world in general.

Sansom earned a bachelor's degree in sustainable community development and ecological restoration from Prescott College, and has extensive experience working in her field, including six years with the Tucson Audubon Society.
