"Narrative of Women in the Military" will be presented by Hope 4 Veterans on Sunday, June 9, 2024, from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. The event has four components: a collection of photographs, a two-act play, a short fashion show or "strut" featuring clothing by Shawna Grant, and a presentation by the St. Augustine Historical Society about how they preserve veterans stories for future generations.

  • The afternoon begins at 2:00 p.m. with the opportunity to mingle and view "She Served" photos of women veterans. Martina Schmidt founded the "She Served" initiative and uses her photographs of these women to share their stories.
  • At 2:30 p.m., the first act of Single Black Female in the Navy will be performed. This play was written by Navy veteran and author, Kim Mullins.
  • During the half-hour intermission, Lady Strut will feature women in the military walking their unique walk, and there will be a screen presentation from the St. Augustine Historical Society about their St. Augustine Veteran Historical Project.
  • The play's second act begins at 4:00 p.m.

This event discusses actual events and challenges encountered by women in the military. The program is not suitable for children. There is strong language and material that can be emotionally challenging and triggering.
