The Guana Tolomato Matanzas National Estuarine Research Reserve (GTMNERR) hosts an immersive and guided walk from the Atlantic Ocean to the Matanzas River estuary at the River to the Sea Preserve, 9805 North Ocean Shore Boulevard, Palm Coast, Florida 32137.

The walk crosses dunes, maritime forests, and mangroves as you learn more about each ecosystem and the habitat it supports. On this hike, work with the science team to investigate salinity, pH, plankton, tide, and other factors that indicate or impact the ecosystem's health.

This is a hands-on, interactive event with the opportunity to use field tools, ask questions, and discover concepts on your own.

Please wear comfortable walking shoes, bring a water bottle, sunscreen, and insect repellent.

In 2026, the "Ocean To Estuary" tour takes place six times a year (on the third Saturdays) at the River to the Sea Preserve: February 17, April 18, June 20, August 15, October 17, and December 19. This is a free event that requires prior registration.

Admission: Free, but reservations are required. Please register to reserve a spot on the tour.

When: On the third Saturdays, in February, April, June, August, October, and December, from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m.

Where: At the River to Sea Pavilion, 9805 N. Ocean Shore Blvd., Palm Coast, Florida 32137
