Pheenix Brown

Virginia native Pheenix Brown took the long way to get to St. Augustine, playing various gigs and working jobs from Washington D.C. to Mexico, to Ormond, Florida.

A multi-talented singer/songwriter, Pheenix started singing while listening to the radio with his mom. He later joined the church choir, and then became the lead singer in the church's youth band. He performed in youth and school bands and choirs and continued to write music and poetry.

Pheenix learned to play the guitar and has a broad range of musical influences, from the Beatles and Smokey Robinson, to Nas and Mos Def. He has written in a number of genres, taught himself to rap while improving his guitar style, and then explored beat making.

Many of his compositions begin with lyrical, beautifully sung verses and move into gut-punching and thought-provoking rap. Pheenix Brown's strengths are his lyrics, and the accomplished mix of singing, rap, activism, and the love of family.
