Teskey Brothers
Melbourne band's soulful journey to global blues-rock stardom.
How do two white kids from Western Australia channel mid-century American soul music? Even the most discerning Black music critics are wow-ed. The Teskey Brothers write it, they sing it, and they re-create it, taking us to another time in music history. Our favorite quote about Josh Teskey is "he looks like that voice should not come outta him."
Originating from the Warrandyte suburb of Melbourne, Australia, the siblings Josh and Sam Teskey have spent more than a decade refining a sound that resonates with timeless soul, blues, and folk-rock energy. With their soul-infused blues, the Teskey Brothers have become renowned for their electrifying performances straight from another era.
The band creates a nostalgic, Otis Redding‑tinged soul sound in their performances, with lush instrumentation from the organ, bass, and tight drums. With a growing global audience, renowned for their studio craftsmanship and powerful live presence, the Teskey Brothers are blazing a compelling path from intimate pub roots to international soulful resonance. A little like the sound of R&B singers from the '60s, and the vocals of Ray Charles, the Teskey Brothers are reminiscent of soul, steeped in blissful tradition and live magic.
Their 2023 studio album, The Winding Way, debuted at number one on the Australian Recording Industry Association (ARIA) charts, following their Run Home Slow album, which received multiple ARIA awards, including Best Blues and Roots Album.
The Winding Way showcases a richer, more adventurous sonic base, layering strings, horns, and woodwinds to weave orchestral textures into their soulful foundation. It earned high praise for the duo’s vocal and instrumental chemistry, and was hailed in Blues Rock Review as a “patient and soulful blues‑tinged record” that feels both timeless and intimate.
With appearances at some of the world’s most iconic festivals, from Glastonbury to Montreux Jazz, Electric Picnic, Merlefest, and Austin City Limits, they have even shared the stage with Bruce Springsteen in Milan. Back in Australia, in January 2025, they headlined the A Day On The Green outdoor tour, revisiting the country’s scenic venues with a line-up that included Band of Horses and Sierra Ferrell. With sold-out headline tours across North America, Europe, and the UK, including 17,000-strong crowds in Amsterdam and 15,000 in London, their trajectory continues to rise, capturing the hearts of folks around the globe.
