Dr. Robert B. Hayling Freedom Park is a public area that honors individuals who were part of St. Augustine's Civil Rights Movement.
The park offers a well-maintained space for meditation and has picturesque views of the San Sebastian and Matanzas River -- especially at sunrise.
History of Freedom Park
Dr. Hayling was the driving force behind the Civil Rights Movement in the City of St. Augustine. He is a recipient of awards such as the Florida Memorial University’s Nathan W. Collier Meritorious Service and Florida A & M University’s Distinguished Alumni Award.
With his passing in 2015, he is remembered as a figure who spearheaded change. The city has given him the highest honors: de Avilés Award (2011) and Order of La Florida Award (2013).
