The Tiny Art Museum presents tiny works of art at 100 St. George Street, in the same building as the Medieval Torture Museum. The company's owner has a large collection of very small works of art, rotating the pieces between his museums.
The collection includes paintings and sculptures that can only be viewed under a microscope. The artists use one strand of hair to paint their masterpieces, and sculptures can be made from porcelain, precious metals, and crushed gemstones. Tiny works of art have been displayed inside one human hair, on the head of a pin, and in the eye of a needle.
The exhibit is placed on benches around four sides of a room. Each work of art is viewed through a microscope, and a poster on the wall hints at the subject. For example, a poster that mentions the impossibility of a camel going through the eye of a needle hangs above a microscope. Looking through the lens, you'll see seven gold camels plodding toward an oasis with two palm trees. All of them are mounted in the eye of the embroidery needle.
Get tickets for the Tiny Art Museum and the Medieval Torture Museum upstairs at 100 St. George Street. Tickets for the Tiny Art Museum are $9.99. Tickets for the Medieval Torture Museum are $22.99, and a ticket with entry to both sections is $27.99.
The entry and ticket area has a gift shop that offers items not found in other St. Augustine shops.
