
On June 6, 2014 the Fort Mose Historical Society will host their 2nd Annual Golf Tournament. The event will be a fundraiser for the organization-filled with competition, prizes, food, and more!
Fort Mose hopes to purchase several items for their upcoming season after this event. Fund-raising goals include monetary support for the "Experience Fort Mose" monthly series, colonial clothing for the militia and residents of Fort Mose, flint-lock muskets, and a gun safe. Sponsers can choose to donate from several levels, including Gold ($3,000), Silver (1,500), and Bronze ($500).
Fort Mose is the site of the first legally sanctioned free African settlement in the United States. The settlement was chartered by the Spanish governor of Florida in 1738. Named Gracia Real de Santa Teresa de Mose, it served as a haven of those fleeing slavery from the English colonies in the Carolina's. Fort Mose is constantly recognized for its national significance and was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1994.
Admission: The price for one golfer is $85, and $100 after May 30. The price for a team of four is $340, and $400 after May 30.
