A.R. Gurney's Sylvia Presented at A Classic Theatre

Sylvia is the tale of a dog and a married couple whose lives comically intertwine.

Fri. and Sat., March 3, 4,10, & 11, and Sun., March 5 & 12, 2023 | See Times Below

A Classic Theatre presents A.R. Gurney's Sylvia on Friday and Saturdays, March 3, 4, 10, and 11, 2023 at 7:30 p.m. with matinees at 2:00 p.m. on Sundays, March 5 and 12, 2023 at the Waterworks, located at 184 San Marco Avenue.

After the nest is empty and Greg and Kate, a long-time married couple, are finally alone in their home, Greg finds himself standing at a crossroad where his identity — father, career, family man—has shifted. Suddenly facing a midlife crisis, he wanders around a park and finds a new companion. Sylvia, a dog — cleverly played by a female actor —  enters the scene and becomes Kate's nuisance and Greg's savior as the couple exchange hefty dialogues where their words' truest meanings are revealed through Sylvia.

With Sylvia being the central focus of Greg and Kate's struggles, the dog's presence puts a humorous spin on marital challenges, shedding light on the subject while revealing obstacles for what they are, which is whatever a couple decides to make them.
