Chanukah Helicopter Gelt Drop
Monday, December 23, 2019, at 5:45 p.m.
Chabad of St. Johns presents the 7th Annual Chanukah Helicopter Gelt Drop and Menorah Lighting to mark the celebration of Chanukah on Monday, December 23, 2019, at Nocatee Splash Park.
The event begins at 5:45 p.m., as a helicopter drops 2,000 foil-wrapped chocolate coins for the kids to rush in and collect. The lighting of a giant glowing menorah follows the coin drop, and the event finishes up with a Chanukah Light Show over the Splash Park, accompanied by live music and a variety of delicious Chanukah treats. A Kosher barbecue dinner is also available for purchase.
The Chanukah story celebrates the rededication of the Holy Temple in Jerusalem. Lighting the eight-branch candelabra known as the menorah is a central part of the eight-day Chanukah festivities. It represents the “illumination of the house without,” meaning that anyone who passes the house can be reminded of the miracle of the holiday.
Since the 1970s, the worldwide Chabad Hasidic movement has initiated public menorah lightings in open public places in many countries. Chabad of St. Johns County takes part in that global effort by sponsoring this ceremony.
Admission is free.
When: Monday, December 23, 2019, at 5:45 p.m.
