Inspired by the Irish storytelling he grew up with, Coghlan began performing one-man shows in 2004. One for the Road, written and performed by Coghlan, is a comedic exploration of Coghlan's life as he left Ireland to move to America, and pokes fun at the strangeness of life as a new arrival.
