  • The majestic Casa Monica Resort & Spa in St. Augustine is a member of the National Trust Historic Hotels of America and is the only AAA Four Diamond rated hotel in the city. The opulent lobby, with its fountains, frescos, and chandeliers, hark back to the turn-of-the-century origins of this historic hotel.

Meticulously restored by Richard C. Kessler in 1999, the Casa Monica keeps its fascinating history alive while offering all the modern amenities guests expect from a Kessler Collection hotel.

With 138 guest rooms and suites, three eating and drinking establishments that include the superb fine-dining restaurant Costa Brava, the lushly-styled Cobalt Lounge (pictured below), and the casual Café Cordova, as well as private dining rooms, a wine room, and gorgeous meeting facilities, the Casa Monica stays true to its Gilded-Age heritage by making all its guests feel like royalty.

Guest rooms are exquisitely decorated with wrought-iron beds, mahogany furnishings, and rich fabrics. Eight one-bedroom suites offer gorgeous views of the cityscape along with spacious seating areas and wet bars.

The Casa Monica also offers five Signature Suites: the two-story Anastasia, Ponce de Leon, and St. Francis suites, the three-story tower suite called the Flagler Suite, and the top-of-the-line Kessler Suite,  which includes four stories in the penthouse tower and is the most luxurious accommodation in the resort.

This grand hotel was originally built by Franklin W. Smith in 1888. He sold it to his good friend Henry Flagler, who renamed it the Cordova Hotel. It was the third jewel in Flagler’s crown of fabulous hotels that served as winter getaways for the fabulously wealthy elite of America's Gilded Age — Andrew Carnegie, John D. Rockefeller, J.P. Morgan, and Cornelius Vanderbilt, just to name a few.

Amenities: Free wireless internet access, outdoor pool, concierge service for reservations and tickets to local attractions, valet services, same-day laundry service, fitness center, boutique shops, art galleries, triple-sheeted beds, feather pillows, luxury bathrobes, in-room safe, hairdryer, Iron/ironing board, and room service.

We decided to splurge for our vacation in St. Augustine and the Casa Monica far exceeded our expectations. The staff was always aware and ready to help out with providing us and our children what we needed daily. From swimming pool, to restaurants, tourism questions to shopping. Park your car once and you are set. You can walk everywhere. Even enjoyed some adult time in their lounge while the kids were sound asleep safely upstairs.
