Fort Mose Jazz & Blues Series 2022: Taj Mahal - CANCELED
Friday, February 11, 2022 | 7:00 p.m. at Fort Mose
The February 11, 2022 concert with Taj Mahal, scheduled to be held at Fort Mose, has been canceled. Refunds will be handled where the tickets were purchased.
The St. Augustine Amphitheatre has joined with Fort Mose Historic State Park to present a series of six award-winning jazz and blues artists to appear over three weeks in honor of the historic and cultural significance of Fort Mose. The legendary Taj Mahal will perform in concert at 7 p.m. Friday, February 11, 2022.
“The blues is bigger than most people think,” says Taj Mahal. “You could hear Mozart play the blues. It might be more like a lament. It might be more melancholy. But I’m going to tell you: the blues is in there.” A multi-instrumentalist, Taj has won two Grammy Awards, recorded on over 30 albums, and has added to the blues genre with songs that include influences from the Caribbean, the South Pacific, India, and Hawaii.
The site of the Fort Mose Historic State Park is America's first legally-sanctioned settlement of free Africans, and was a safe destination for escaped slaves during the early years of the Underground Railroad. This series is part of the County's celebration of Black History Month and proceeds of this series will help fund the construction of a representation of the original Fort Mose, which was destroyed in 1740 during the Battle of Bloody Mose.
The Fort Mose Jazz & Blues Series is jointly produced by the Fort Mose Historical Society, the St. Johns County Cultural Events Division — which includes the St. Augustine Amphitheatre and the Ponte Vedra Concert Hall, the St. Johns County Tourist Development Council, the St. Johns Cultural Council, and Flying Saucer Presents.
