Handmouth Live with Basia Bulat

The Ponte Vedra Concert Hall presents Houndmouth and Basia Bulat live on Wednesday, September 30, 2015.

Ever since their stellar South by Southwest performance in 2012, Houndmouth has soared in popularity. This little band from New Albany, Indiana began after Katie Toupin (vocals/keyboard), Zak Appleby (vocals/bass), Shane Cody (vocals/drums), and Matt Myers (vocals/guitar) crossed paths and decided to combine their musical talents. Their persistence and determination paid off once Geoff Travis—owner of Rough Trade Records—saw their show at SXSW. Travis met with the group immediately after and offered them a record deal. Since then, the band released a self-titled EP, an LP titled From the Hills Below the City, and, just recently, their sophomore release Little Neon Limelight.

Little Neon Limelight is a testament to Houndmouth's newly attained status. Mixing thoughtful lyricism and energetic musical accompaniment, Houndmouth's Matt Myers explains how their second album is significantly more grounded in experience as opposed the random nature of their previous releases. The bands goal was to be attached to their music. With that sort of mindset and passion, it is no surprise that Houndmouth continues to impress.

Basia Bulat's last release Tall Tall Shadow marked a drastic change for the Toronto singer-songwriter. Modernity adorns Tall Tall Shadow. Bulat's own experience and loss instilled a desire to start over and move onto the next stage in her life. Joining Bulat is her brother Bobby Bulat (drummer), Holly Coish (keys and backing vocals), and Tim Kingsbury and Ben Whitely on guitars and bass. Tall Tall Shadow tells the story of struggle and resolve Bulat experienced before its release.

Determination, growth, and talent perfectly express the love for music both groups' posses. Houndmouth and Basia Bulat are sure to bring energy and a redefined sound to the Ponte Vedra Concert Hall.
