The Historic St. Augustine Research Institute presents a spring speaker series on two evenings at the Governor's House Cultural Center and Museum, 48 King Street in St. Augustine. Leslee F. Keys, Ph.D., presents Celebrations and Commemorations: Engaging Communities in History, on Thursday, March 7, at 7:00 p.m.

Dr. Keys, historian, and historic preservation expert, looks back at the former commemorations held in the Oldest City, including the 1876 celebration of the U.S. Centennial, commemorating the signing of the Declaration of Independence. In only two years, we will celebrate the country's 250th anniversary. St. Augustine has had a unique role in our nation's history from the city's founding, through the Civil Rights Era, and today. Dr. Keys will discuss how St. Augustine has played a role in several commemorations at the local, state, and national levels.
