Ideas and Images: Visiting Scholars and Artists program from Flagler College presents the speaker series titled Race and the American South: St. Augustine in Context This series commemorates the 50th Anniversary of the passage of the Civil Rights Act in 1964.

March 6, 2014 is titled: "The Common Folk Culture of the South: The Interrelationship of Blacks and Whites in the Making of Dixie's Music". This lecture will be presented by Dr. Bill C. Malone, Professor Emeritus of History at Tulane University.

Dr. Malone is an American musician, author and historian. His first love as a child was country music and became a well-known country singer in the Austin area. He earned his Master's degree and published his dissertation in 1968 titled Country Music, U.S.A.

About the series: Flagler Colleges Ideas and Images series features an international composition of artists and authors, each introducing a fresh and creative component to the community. This season the series will host special programs focused on the 50th Anniversary of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and St. Augustine's role in that era.

Where? In the Flagler Room at Flagler College located 74 King Street St. Augustine, FL 32084. (The Flagler Room is located off the main rotunda on the first floor of the Ponce building).

When? Thursday, March 6, 2014 at 7 - 9 pm
