The Lightner Museum presents "American Stories: Paintings and Sculpture from the Lightner Museum," beginning Monday, July 14, 2025, and on display through Wednesday, May 27, 2026. The museum is open daily from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
In the years after the Civil War, the U.S. transformed from being an agrarian country to one with a bustling industrial economy. The population shifted to cities, the country's boundaries expanded, and citizens, pundits, and historians questioned how America's identity was changing. Sculptures and paintings in the museum's collection highlight those changes and how American artists of the time documented and interpreted the young nation's new society, spirit, and character.
