First Friday
The exhibit opens on Friday, June 5, with a free First Friday reception from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. The American Traveler exhibit remains on display into August, and you can view it between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. on every day except July 4, when they are closed.
The Art and Artist
Alex Devereux, from Chicago, has a background in both fine art and graphic design. He takes his inspiration from vintage and retro Americana works and uses acrylics to paint his detailed, photorealistic pieces.
Devereux has said that he seeks to focus on "overlooked and underappreciated" familiar objects and locations, particularly the rundown stations and shops, and old, scarred signs. His paintings convey a mixture of longing, loneliness, warmth, and adventure. His use of light and color creates a surreal sense of realness and dimension.
