The Lightner Museum presents The Wiener Werkstätte: Art, Luxury, and Beauty in Modern Vienna, from Thursday, November 20, 2025, through July 14, 2026.
In 1903, two artists and a businessman founded the Wiener Werkstätte (Vienna Workshops): Josef Hoffmann, an architect; Koloman Moser, a painter and graphic artist; and Fritz Waerndorfer, a financier. They formed a collective of Viennese artists from several disciplines who joined forces to bring outstanding design to everyday life, creating useful works of art. The group followed the ideals of the British Arts and Crafts Movement, and their work resulted in beautifully crafted furniture, ceramics, jewelry, textiles, and architecture.
This exhibit of items from the Richard H. Driehaus Collection in Chicago brings items from one of the 20th century's early design movements to the Lightner Museum in St. Augustine.
The cover photo shows two pieces of art from the exhibit.
