Amistad will be hosting "Menorca In Our Hearts! -- A 450th Celebration of Art, Poetry and Flavors of St. Augustine's Menorcan Heritage," as part of the First Friday Art Walk on Friday, August 7, 2015 The event will feature two of St. Augustine's most respected artists, Maria Rosa Johnson-Sintes and Ann Browning Masters, from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.

Award-winning painter Maria Rosa Johnson-Sintes is widely recognized for her depictions of her early life in her hometown town, Es Mercadal, on the island of Menorca. Her use of vivid, memorable color combinations are the result of her Menorcan upbringing and heritage. In the warmth of her yellows, the serene quality of her blue skies, and the vivid deep reds in her flowers, Johnson integrates her cultural ancestry into her art.

Joining Johnson for Amistad's First Friday Art Walk event is poet Ann Browning Masters. Masters will be signing copies of her most recent collection, Floridanos, Menorcans, Cattle-Whip Crackers: Poetry of St. Augustine. Her poetry chronicles post-civil-war St. Augustine all the way up to the civil rights movement. Masters is a 12th-generation Floridian, a founding member of the Los Floridanos Society and a member of the Menorcan Cultural Society.

Accompanying these two creative powerhouses will be some of the excellent local vendors and restaurateurs around town. Retired National Guard officer Kenny Johns will provide datil pepper appetizers, Johnny and Beanie's will bring pilau, and a specialty dip mixed with datil peppers will be provided by Coleen Messner of the Spice and Tea Exchange. Amistad will have delicious wines imported from Spain available. Live music will also be provided.

Amistad is a fair-trade store, gallery and fine wine shop located at the SeaSide Plaza in St. Augustine Beach.

The evening will be filled with rich Spanish art, history, food, and music, and is all part of St. Augustine's celebration of its 450th anniversary coming up on September 8, 2015.
