African Art as Cultural Memory

In celebration of Black History Month, the Ovico Gallery hosts a curated art experience, The Story Behind the Canvas: African Art as Cultural Memory, on Saturday, February 7, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m., and on Sunday, February 8, from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m.

At each event, you can enjoy light appetizers and cocktails as you tour the gallery featuring art by Chike Onuorah, a contemporary artist from Nigeria. There is a guided exhibit, offering insights into the stories of his art and the symbols and experiences depicted. The conversation focuses on how African artists preserve history and tradition in their work.

Chike Onaorah creates contemporary and bold paintings that depict African life and culture. 

The evening is designed to offer time to enjoy relaxed conversation, creating an inspiring experience near the beginning of Black History Month. Guitarist Demi Hendrix performs during the event.
