Pecha Kucha and the 100th Anniversary of Davis Shores
Get ready for spooky fun and a roaring party at the October 18 Pecha Kucha evening brought to you by the St. Augustine Chapter of Pecha Kucha. What's spook? The night's theme is "Disappearing Act," and second, the location is the St. Augustine Alligator Farm—in the dark of the night. As for "roaring," the evening also serves as a celebration for the Davis Shores Centennial, and you are encouraged to wear your best roaring twenties duds.
For the Davis Shores celebrations, guest speakers and authors Rodney Kite-Powell and David Nolan offer their insights on the development and history of Davis Shores. Kite-Powell, author of History of Davis Islands: David P. Davis and the Story of a Landmark Tampa Neighborhood, discusses Davis and his development of Davis Shores in St. Augustine. David Nolan, author of Fifty Feet in Paradise: The Booming of Florida, is a leader in historic preservation and St. Augustine history. Listen to these authors' stories, savor bites of local foods, and dance to live music from the House Cats.
Enjoy all of that—plus the traditional Pecha Kucha presentations on the topic, "Disappearing Act." The PK speakers will each have precisely six minutes and 40 seconds to share stories and slides about their experiences, frights, surprises, and mysteries. We aren't sure what the stories will be, and we know you'll be entertained.
For 12 years, the St. Augustine chapter of Pecha Kucha has presented local people sharing personal stories and photos. At PK events, pre-selected presenters discuss their thoughts on the evening's theme, showing 20 slides and speaking about each one for 20 seconds before moving on to the next. This 20X20 format enables each presenter to have six minutes and 40 seconds to tell their story.
At every Pecha Kucha Night, the audience can expect to learn, laugh, empathize, and expect a surprise or two.
