Telling Tales about the Season of Lights

Listen to tales of holidays recent and past when four members of the Tale Tellers of St. Augustine offer their stories on December 13, 2025, at 4:30 p.m., at the Unitarian-Universal Fellowship on Anastasia Island.

For their program, Celebration of the Season of Lights, David Fussel, Kathy Kniery, Rita Saker, and Debra Weller take turns sharing personal and traditional tales of the holiday season, including tales about Christmas, Hanukkah, and Kwanzaa. 

• David Fussell offers the humor and wisdom of a Southern Cracker, something he comes by honestly since he's a fifth-generation Florida Cracker on one side of his family and a fifth-generation Wiregrass Georgia Cracker on the other side. His folks told stories on the front porches of many homes, and David continues to relate old and new tales to audiences far and wide.
• Kathy Kniery moved to the area from Illinois, having worked there as a public school librarian and media specialist. Storytelling was her favorite part of the job, so she has found joy in developing those skills to share stories with folks of every age.
• Rita Saker, also a retired librarian, is bilingual and travels with her puppet friends. She is known as a vivacious and captivating teller of tales from all over the world.
• Debra Weller often shares her stories in song, accompanied by her guitar. She offers participatory folk stories and original tales and folk songs. 

The Tale Tellers of St. Augustine was formed in 1993 by storytelling enthusiasts. Their mission is to pass on and enhance the art of storytelling. With more than 30 members, this group produces several showcases a year, seeking to revive storytelling as an art form and social means of communication.
